La Sexta

La Sexta, pronounced [la ˈseksta] in Spanish, is a free-to-air television channel in Spain. It is a privately owned network that was first established on March 18, 2001, under the name Beca TV, which started broadcasting on April 1 of the same year. However, the channel faced financial difficulties and went into liquidation by July 21, 2003, leading to its closure. In 2005, it was relaunched as La Sexta, beginning test transmissions on November 25, 2005, and officially launching on March 27, 2006. The channel offers a variety of programming, focusing heavily on humor and entertainment. It is well-known for airing a significant amount of American shows and sports content. In recent years, La Sexta has gained recognition for its comprehensive coverage of political events, especially elections, featuring in-depth discussions on three major programs: Al Rojo vivo (Red-hot), El Objetivo (The Lens), and Salvados (Saved). The channel's news and debate segments are generally aligned with left-wing perspectives. In 2012, La Sexta was purchased by Grupo Antena 3, which is now known as Atresmedia Televisión.
