TROY — Troy senior Tatyana Green is headed back to the state meet. But, she is not satisfied yet. Green finished second in the shot put at the Wayne D-I regional meet Wednesday with a PR of 40-11 3-4. She will be looking at improving on last year’s seventh place finish at state next week. “I have so much left in the tank,” Green said. “I still have a lot more (distance) left.”While Green was second heading into the finals Wednesday, she wasn’t happy with her distance.

HUBER HEIGHTS — Tippecanoe long jumpers Will Strong and Max Deckard are the best of friends. Now, the two have a chance to make history at the D-I state track and field meet next week. Strong won the long jump with a school record 22-11 1-2 jump, while Deckard had a jump of 22-5 to finish fourth on the opening day of D-I regional meet at Wayne High School. “We are best friends,” Strong said. “We had talked about this, the possibility of us both making it to state. Maybe we can finish 1-2.

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe baseball team advanced to a D-III district title game with a 12-0 win over Piqua Wednesday at Tippecanoe Junior High. The Red Devils will play Ross at 5 p.m. Friday at Bellbrook High School for the district title. Cayden McKinney combined with Ethan Davis to pitch a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight.

CLAYTON — The Covington softball team cruised into the D-VII regional finals Wednesday with a 14-3 win over Ansonia in five innings Wednesday at Northmont High School. The Buccs, 20-9, were scheduled to play Southeastern, 23-4, in the regional title game at 5 p.m. Friday. Covington erased an early 3-0 deficit int he second inning. Kylie Palsgrove had a RBI double to get Covington on the board and would score on a double steal. Ava Hartwig added a RBI triple to tie the game 3-3.

PLEASANT HILL — The Newton baseball team won a D-VII district semifinal over Jackson Center 10-0 Tuesday at Newton High School. The Indians, 19-8, will play the New Miami-Fayetteville Perry winner at 5 p.m. Thursday at Edgewood High School for the district title. Austin Tippie pitched a one-hitter for the Indians, striking out 10 and walking two. Newton took advantage of 13 walks by the Jackson Center pitchers and made the most of five hits.
