    The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is calling on nature lovers to help protect some of the state’s most vulnerable shorebirds, including the federally threatened piping plover and the state-endangered American oystercatcher. DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife will host a training session for prospective volunteers from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 3, at the Officers Club Mess Hall in Cape Henlopen State Park.

    The Milford Museum will continue its American History Series on Saturday, May 10, with a deep dive into one of the region’s most important agricultural legacies: the canning industry. The presentation, led by agricultural historian and former Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Ed Kee, will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Milford Public Library. For more than a century, the Delmarva Peninsula and Baltimore were at the heart of the nation’s canned food industry.
