The Mountlake Terrace City Council voted 5-2 Thursday to approve installation of the Flock Safety license plate recognition camera system in the city. Thursday’s meeting was extended to 11 p.m. after 14 people signed up to speak for or against the camera system. The comment time for each speaker was reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes due to the high number of sign-ups. The ultimate question this meeting seemed to be: Who do you fear more, criminals or the federal government?

Two employees at the Shell gas station at 6602 220th St. S.W. in Mountlake Terrace were stabbed while confronting a shoplifter at about 2 p.m. Friday, police said. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the two employees, who were transported to Swedish Edmonds Hospital for what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. The Washington Department of Ecology is proposing a rule to restrict the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances – better known as PFAS – in common consumer products including clothing, cleaning products and car wash soap. The rule would also require manufacturers to report if they use PFAS in nine other product categories. PFAS are a group of toxic chemicals that resist water, stains, and heat.

The former owner and manager of the Royal India Cuisine restaurants in Lynnwood and Kirkland face multiple felony theft charges for failing to pay employees nearly $45,000 from 2021 to 2023. Mohammad Rashid Bhatti, 74, and Aeisha Bhatti, 47, pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges at their arraignment on June 4. Mohammad Bhatti was the owner and Aeisha Bhatti was the manager of the two locations.
