The Mountlake Terrace City Council during its June 12 meeting approved a six-month extension to the contract with Feldman and Lee for public defense services. This is the second extension to the agreement between the city and the law firm, as both parties were awaiting the Washington State Supreme Court’s decision on the maximum caseload for public defenders. The current maximum is 150 felony and 400 misdemeanor cases a year.

The Arts of the Terrace Juried Art Show has issued a call for artists; applications are due by Aug. 15. This marks the 45th anniversary of the show, which will take place from Sept. 20-27, 2025. Submissions can include paintings, prints, drawings, miniatures, photographs, three-dimensional works and artisan pieces. Over $5,000 in prize money is available. The event is sponsored by the City of Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission and Mountlake Terrace Friends of the Arts.

The Edmonds-Woodway High School Class of 2025 held its commencement ceremony at the Edmonds School Stadium on June 14, with gratitude in their hearts. Graduating students gathered with their friends, family, teachers and mentors to not only transition into the next phase of their lives but also to express their gratitude to those who had helped them achieve this milestone. The student speaker chosen by the senior class was Abel Mekonen.

Two hundred ninety-three Mountlake Terrace High School students launched their caps skyward on June 14 to celebrate their graduation at the Edmonds School District Stadium. The 2025 class is the first graduating class that did not have pandemic restrictions during high school and was able to have a typical in-seat experience for all four years. The welcome message was delivered by graduating senior Neela Lopez Hernandez in English and Spanish.
