    The parking lot was full, and the house was packed at Sawyer Park this past Sunday, as Montgomery’s own Payton Riley took to the stage at The Woodlands icehouse to entertain the throngs gathered to hear her new single ‘Not As Much As I Used To.’ Riley, 15, headlined a trio of talented singers, Jeff Canada, Donice Morace, and Bubba Westly; and the anticipation was palpable as Westly finished his set, and the Payton Riley Band began its prep.

    I wasn’t planning on reviewing anything that day, but I stopped in to see my friend Rollis Johnson over at Slice of Amish in Historic Montgomery; and the next thing I know I was invited to a birthday party at Bar & Vines (right next door), for owner Harold Vines. I then went to say ‘Hi!’ to my friend Holly who bartends there, and she bum rushed me. “Ruben, Ruben, you gotta try the ‘Smokey Old Fashioned.’” I looked at myself, unshaven and not properly attired to handle a smoked drink.

    It may be a small operation, but they have a big impact when it comes to taste, and if you are in the mood for a Gourmet Hot Dog, the year round carnival fare offered at buldogies (all lower case), located at 14543 SH 105, will take your taste buds to heights they have never seen. I’m in the eastern portion of the Lake Creek Settlement this week, checking out and charging headlong into the reality of what a top of the line hot dog should actually taste like.
