Singapore's first ever comprehensive survey of the Southern Islands uncovered a trove of rich biodiversity there. The islands have a variety of coastal and marine habitats such as coastal forests, mangroves, rocky shores, sandy shores, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs. The survey, which was conducted over two years, found around 1,500 flora taxa and 5,000 fauna taxa. Not all the organisms were identified down to the species level, and some were instead identified only to their genus.

Resorts World Sentosa's S.E.A. Aquarium, which has been closed since April 2025, will officially open as the Singapore Oceanarium on Jul. 23. The oceanarium will be three times bigger than its predecessor, and will include 22 zones that "span across space (from shallow waters to the deep sea) and time (from prehistoric oceans to the present day)". ADVERTISEMENTThese zones include the moon jellies at "Ocean Wonders" and mangroves at "Singapore's Coast".

The tilapia fish has a bad rap among consumers. As the fish is typically farmed in freshwater, it's shunned for its supposedly 'muddy' taste. The Singapore Agro-Food Enterprises Federation (Safef), however, is hoping to change that. To boost demand for local produce, Safef, with the support of the Singapore Food Agency, is hoping to breed higher-quality tilapia, using sustainable methods, that will meet consumer preferences.

After nearly 20 years advocating for wildlife, Anbarasi Boopal, better known as Anbu, has stepped down as co-chief executive of Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres). Anbu officially did so on Apr. 30, and plans to take a break after, reported The Straits Times. She told ST that following this, she hopes to work on policies on the welfare of farmed animals.
