According to comments made by Thermal Club founder and owner Tim Rogers, the NTT IndyCar Series may not be returning to the privately-owned California track next season. IndyCar has taken a trip to the exclusive motor club for each of the past three years, including a $1 million exhibition event in 2024 and a full points paying race in March of this season. The event was a bit of an outlier due to the private nature of the track, which only allowed a few thousand fans to attend in person.

During Sunday’s IndyCar race at Road America, David Malukas was the first driver to find trouble. He touched the grass under braking into Turn 3 on the first lap, and spun into the gravel trap as the rest of the field roared past. After bring pulled out of the gravel, Malukas set about making up for lost ground. He climbed back through the field over the race’s 55 laps to finish right where he started in seventh position.

The last couple of months have turned into a prolonged period of transition for the Anglo-French marque. Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has warned his drivers to never put themselves above the collective Formula 1 glory of the team. Wolff, who has been at the helm of the Brackley-based squad since 2013, led the German marque to eight consecutive Constructors’ titles between 2014 and 2021. 2025 marks the fourth season since the Silver Arrows have been dethroned from their high perch in the ground effect era of the sport, and the first since Lewis Hamilton left the team for Ferrari.

Santino Ferrucci finished third in Sunday’s race from Road America, earning his second IndyCar podium in the past three races. That result was far from guaranteed, however, as he was witness to all sorts of chaos in the opening few laps. Ferrucci started in 18th, saw David Malukas then Callum Ilott go off course in front of him, and in total there were four cautions in the first half of the race.
