    CHURCH CREEK — On Monday morning, a new historic marker honoring Harriet Tubman’s birthplace was unveiled. It is set to be placed on Maryland Route 16. The marker is the result of work by Chief Archaeologist for the Maryland Department of Transportation Julie Schablitsky, whose team seeks to help people to better understand Tubman’s early life through her home and her descendants. Schablitsky and her team began searching for signs of Tubman’s early life in Dorchester County in late 2020.

    Dorchester County Council Members are planning to submit five recommendations for the Maryland Association of County’s 2026 legislative initiatives. MACo will select four initiatives based on feedback and suggestions from Maryland’s county jurisdictions and Baltimore City to prioritize during the state’s General Assembly beginning in January.
