Central Heights freshman Andrew Bird returned to school Wednesday with a hero’s welcome after making history as the school’s first state golf champion. “The administration organized a police escort,” Central Heights head golf coach Mark Perkins said. “They showed up with several cars. Andrew got out, and they had a big tunnel set up for him to walk through. All the students were lined up in the hallway. There’s a lot of support here.”Bird said the congratulations from fellow students came pouring in.
