ROCKLAND, Mass. — What's cool about the Mass. Hockey boys festival is players go through it three times. So over the course of three years, onlookers get to watch players raise their stock. For the '08s, this was their third time through, meaning we've gotten a full look at their development from ages 15-17. It's the second time through for the '09s, so this season marks a nice midway point to see how they're progressing. It's the first time seeing the '10s. They won't be included in this story.
46 Mass., New England players make USA Hockey girls National 15 Camp

There will hardly be a shortage of local representation at USA Hockey's girls National 15 Camp this summer. The camp, which will run from July 24-29, at Miami University (Ohio), features 216 players from the 2010 birth year. It coincides with the National 15 Goalie Camp, which is July 22-24. Of the 216 players competing in the camp, 46 hail from either Massachusetts or New England — 26 forwards, 16 defenders and four goalies. Here's the full roster.

USA Hockey's girls National 16/17 Camp roster is here. The camp will feature 170 total players across the 2008 and 2009 birth years and will run from July 18-23 at Miami University (Ohio). Of the 170 players, 36 will represent the Massachusetts and New England districts − 20 forwards, 13 defenders and three goalies. The camp will also be an evaluation to see which players will move on to fill out the 46-player roster for the Under-18 Women's National Team Festival in Lake Placid in August.

USA Hockey's National U19 camp roster is out. The camp includes 38 players from the 2006 and 2007 birth years and will take place at the Goggin Ice Center at Miami University (Ohio) from July 18-21. The selections were made based on scouting of in-season competition. Many of the players below are either prep graduates who will be off to the collegiate ranks in the fall or current prep standouts who are rising seniors. There's already a fair amount of local representation heading to USA Hockey's Girls Under-18 Women's National Team Festival. The festival will take place in Lake Placid, N.Y., from August 3-9. The initial roster includes 15 players. A third of that group is made up of Massachusetts locals, including current prep hockey stars. Players competing in the National 15 and 16/17 camps will also have the opportunity to advance to the U18 festival.

We have a funny habit of comparing things because they follow one another. Whether fair or not, it's a natural thing to do. I grew up near Mad Willie's, an ice cream shop in Framingham, Mass. The 2025 Mass. Hockey boys festival came to a close this past weekend with the Final 40 at Lovell Arena. For 2008-born players, it was their final time at the event. They took to the ice to battle for spots at USA Hockey's Select 17 Camp, which will be in Amherst, N.Y., from July 7-13. From there, they will hope to have a shot at making the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup team. ROCKLAND, Mass. — The next step is USA Hockey Select Camps. And those are a pretty big deal. The Mass. Hockey boys festival is over after two straight weekends of action at New England Sports Center and, most recently, Lovell Arena. On the first weekend, roughly 80 players from each of the 2008, 2009, and 2010 birth years took to the ice. Then, the evaluators whittled it down to 40 players in each age group, who made up the Final 40 this past weekend.

It all comes down to this. Players will battle for spots at USA Hockey's Select 17, 16 and 15 Camps this weekend at Lovell Arena in the Mass. Hockey boys festival's Final 40. A group of evaluators will pick a certain number of players (we'll get into that in a bit) to move on to Amherst, N.Y., for Select Camps. I want to make this clear: I don't pick who moves on. I will certainly put out predictions early next week, but I have no part in the decision process. The '08s are the oldest this season.

For most people, summer means time on the beach, relaxation and warm weather. Around here, however, it's all about the Foxboro Summer Prep League. The league runs out of Rink 1 at Foxboro Sports Center. On Wednesday nights, games will be played at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. It's full of players in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 birth years. Play begins on June 11. This season, there's a new Young Guns league, which features 2010s and 2011s.
