    The U.S. Department of Labor’s new overtime law is drawing mixed reviews and challenges across the United States. The law, which went into effect on July 1, requires that employees making at least $43,888 per year ($844 per week) must receive overtime, or time and a half, pay if they work more than 40 hours a week. In January, 2025, the threshold increases to include those making at least $58,656 ($1,128 per week). Prior to the rule, the threshold was capped at $35,568.
