Is it better to feed cattle grass or grain? To Dennis Byrne, both methods have their benefits. Byrne raises Angus cattle on grass until four months before harvest, then finishes them on grain. During a recent drive across Pennsylvania on Interstate 80, I noticed quite a few roadkills. But they weren’t deer. Through a nearly 40-mile stretch of the interstate – from Danville to Loganton  – I counted five dead turkeys along the road. Further west, from Snowshoe to Clearfield, I spotted three more along the interstate, for a total of eight. This content is restricted to subscribers of OutdoorNews.com.

HANOVER TWP. — When George Bowers started Fishing for a Cause in 2000, the purpose was simple. An avid angler, Bowers wanted to use his love of fishing to brighten the day for children battling serious illnesses. He did so by making annual trips to the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville and the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, delivering gifts of fishing rods and reels to children who had to spend Christmas in the hospital.

There were fewer farm deaths in Pennsylvania last year, but funding for ag-related safety programs could also decrease. According to Penn State Extension’s annual safety report, there were 19 known agricultural fatalities in 2024. In 2023 there were 33. The 2024 total is lower than the 25-year average of 28 deaths per year. Florence Becot, the lead for Penn State’s Agricultural Safety and Health Program, said the figure can vary greatly year to year.

Rainforest-like weather, fertilized 200 lbs/ac and @HolganixAg foliar application made the 3rd cutting orchard grass boom. Too bad can't get weather to make dry squares out of it. https://t.co/4qVI0CLZjM
