HALEYVILLE - First responders will take center stage at the City of Haleyville’s annual 9-1-1 Festival, this Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, which promises entertainment for all ages. The festival, sponsored by the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce and 9-1-1 Festival Committee, honors the City of Haleyville for being the location of the nation’s first emergency 9-1-1 call, made in 1968. “We’re hoping we have good weather for our 9-1-1 festival,” Mayor Ken Sunseri emphasized.

HALEYVILLE - Haleyville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland has been named superintendent of Hartselle City Schools. Sutherland announced the news to a system wide gathering of faculty and staff at Haleyville Elementary School Thursday afternoon, May 22. A Haleyville native, Sutherland has served as Haleyville City Schools superintendent since 2017. Prior to that, she was the principal of Haleyville High School for three years.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A project developed to better recognize the graves of veterans buried at Double Springs Memorial Cemetery by creating the town’s first memorial honoring all veterans, has been personal to each person who participated. The project also earned Eagle Scout status for Noah Blevins, 14, a member of Double Springs Boy Scout Troop 92, and a student at Double Springs Middle School.
