Northwestern Mutual
In 1859, a tragic accident occurred when an ox collided with a passenger train near Johnson Creek, Wisconsin, resulting in the deaths of two of our policyholders. The claims from this incident amounted to $3,500, exceeding the $2,000 our young company had at that time. Demonstrating our commitment to our clients, President Samuel S. Daggett and the board members took it upon themselves to personally borrow the funds needed to cover the claims. This incident reflects our longstanding dedication to serving our clients since our inception.
