The Oakland Post is a weekly publication based in Oakland County, Michigan, and is run by students at Oakland University. This independent newspaper is operated by Oakland Sail, Inc. Currently, Shelby Tankersley holds the position of editor-in-chief. Her predecessor, Paige Brockway, was in charge from fall 2016 to spring 2017. Before her, Kristen Davis served as editor from fall 2015 to spring 2016, while Kaylee Kean held the role during the summer of 2015. Oona Goodin-Smith was the editor from summer 2014 to spring 2015, and Scott Wolchek took over from summer 2013 to spring 2014. Nichole Seguin was the editor from winter 2011 to spring 2013, and Kay Nguyen served from spring 2010 to fall 2011. The editor-in-chief for the 2009-10 school year was Colleen Miller.

    The south side of campus may be known by the two golf courses planted within the biological preserves. Before the second course was built, a trail system had been the epicenter of outdoor recreation at OU and more than 40 years later, on April 18, it had its revamped grand opening. “Today went really well, we got a good turnout and I’m glad people are just loving the trail,” Nicholas Skinner, Student Congress director of sustainability, said.

    Riley Gaines, an advocate for women’s sports and former competitive swimmer, came to Oakland University on April 15 to speak against transgender women competing in women’s sports. Like with conservative speaker, Chloe Cole’s visit, police officers and protestors descended onto campus — as well as a divided student body. “Gaines became widely known for speaking out against transgender women competing in women’s sports,”  the Network of Enlightened Women at OU (NeW) said in their event description.

    On April 8, the Founders Ballrooms hosted a networking dinner and fashion show where students could practice their networking skills and refine their professional presentation at social events. The Career and Life Design Center’s Etiquette Mixer also featured a fashion show with examples of appropriate, fun and funny outfits to wear to the office.

    With the help of Sabin, a Drag Queen host at Oakland University for 13 years, the Oakland Center submerged itself in the 20th edition of the Annual Drag Show. With an under-the-sea theme, SAGE welcomed 10 drag performers — professional and amateur, new and known — to celebrate a now traditional show at OU on March 25. “My favorite part, for sure, was the decorations,” Claire Childers, SAGE president, said.
