Legislation to extend Victoria’s market-based energy efficiency subsidy scheme by a further 15 years has passed through state parliament, sending a “rock-solid signal” to business to invest in electrification so consumers save energy and money. The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Amendment (Energy Upgrades for the Future) Bill 2025 was voted through parliament late on Tuesday, extending the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program to 2045 from its current legislated end date of 2030.

A South Australian electrician has been convicted and fined for falsely claiming to have installed or supervised a total of 62 rooftop solar systems as part of the national rebate scheme. The Clean Energy Regulator says the man, Liam Sheppard, was last month convicted and fined $3,500 for providing false or misleading documents in the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

Origin Energy will offer retail electricity to residential and small business customers in parts of regional Queensland, providing choice to customers previously limited to government-backed retailer Ergon. Origin’s newly announced service area expands into the Ergon network, which covers much of Queensland, but will be focused on the network’s eastern region including Townsville, Cairns, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Mackay, Bundaberg and Maryborough, and parts of Mount Isa.
