    An investigation by Which? has found a number of children's sunglasses sold through online marketplaces failed safety tests and are illegal to sell in the UK. In response to the findings, the AOP said it was "unacceptable" that unsafe and illegal sunglasses are being sold to the public, "particularly to parents trying to protect their children's developing eyes."Researchers at Which? bought 20 pairs of sunglasses from six online marketplaces: Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, TikTok, Temu and Shein.

    The AOP has highlighted guidance for optometry practices in Scotland regarding the new requirements for the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme, reminding members of the 1 July deadline for applications. Under the new requirements, it is the responsibility of the employing practice to check that employees are up-to-date members of the PVG scheme with barring.

    Booking has opened for the AOP's Hospital and Specialty Optometrists Conference (HSOC), which will take place from 8-9 November in London. The event, supported by headline sponsor Bausch + Lomb, will bring together hospital and community specialty optometrists for education and networking. Bookings for the two-day event opened for hospital and specialty optometrists today (20 June). The event will deliver a main programme of four lectures, along with paper presentations and a trade exhibition.

    SeeAbility will extend its Special School Eye Care Service provision to between 25 and 30 more schools in London from September 2025. Integrated care boards in London have extended the learning disability charity's existing contracts ahead of the coming academic year. The expansion means that the number of London schools in which SeeAbility is contracted to provide eye examinations will almost double.
