The first case Mackie discussed involved a man with a swollen eye, who he saw while working at the vaccination centre during the pandemic. "You notice people's eyes more when they are wearing a face mask," Mackie observed. After Mackie vaccinated the man, he suggested that he come see him in practice.

A new Master's in optometry is being developed by the University of Leicester and is expected to welcome its first cohort of 34 students in autumn 2026, pending General Optical Council (GOC) approval. The course is being built with the needs of industry in mind and is currently progressing through the GOC accreditation process, Dr Christian French, who is developing the programme, told OT.

BMJ Case Reports authors described how the patient presented to the ophthalmology department at the All India Institute of Medical ScienceBhopal after experiencing a foreign body sensation in his right eye for the past three days. He told clinicians that 'dust' had fallen into his eyes when he was riding his bike three days earlier.
