    The La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board welcomed its residents to a new school year, which brings new hires, new enrollment numbers and excitement for the year ahead. “We are very anxious and happy to be welcoming students back to school,” said Superintendent Wendy Sinnette in her report at the board meeting on Tuesday. The district will see the return of 4,001 students for the 2024-25 school year.

    The La Cañada Flintridge City Council voted to deny a resident’s appeal of a proposed project that would demolish an existing home and build a new one on Hampstead Road at its meeting on Tuesday. The project was originally submitted to the Planning Commission in August 2023 and was approved May 2024. The project applicant, Dina Elkinawy, requested the demolition of the existing single-family residence and construction of a 6,866-square-foot, two-story residence with a flat roof on a hillside lot.

    The La Cañada Flintridge City Council at its July 16 meeting approved a settlement agreement with the Foothill Municipal Water District related to a ruptured 24-inch high-pressure water line causing damage to the road and sinking of Foothill Boulevard in April 2019. In the settlement, the city will be responsible for all the construction operations, which includes the installation of the new water line.
