The La Cañada Flintridge City Council recently approved settlement agreements for attorney’s fees and costs incurred by three organizations pertaining to litigation involving the city’s housing element and a builder’s remedy project at 600 Foothill Boulevard. A total of $1.31 million will come out of the city’s General Fund to pay for the fees. Settlement agreements do not involve the 600 Foothill owner.

A three-story, multifamily development is in preliminary review to be built on a property that sits at the corner of El Camino Corto and Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge, across the street from Lutheran Church. Neighbors who reside on El Camino Corto told the Outlook Valley Sun that the property, just over half an acre, has never been developed and has stayed vacant. The project brings concerns about safety, traffic and the effect on the character of the neighborhood for residents.

After discussing the possibility of a new ordinance that would prohibit unlawful camping and storage of personal property on public property, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council recently approved one that is set to take effect in July. The ordinance would prohibit any person from camping, occupying camp facilities or using camp paraphernalia on public property owned by the city for more than 24 hours.

After eliminating the elementary school Spanish program due to necessary budgetary cuts, the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board recently approved a contract with Lanterns Global to provide families an opportunity for an after-school Spanish program. The Spanish enrichment program is expected to begin in September of this year and go through May 2026. Families who are interested will pay Lanterns Global $22 per student per hour for the semester.

Measure LC Parcel Tax revenue was expected to bring in about $2.72 million in fiscal year 2024-25 for the La Cañada Unified School District, ensuring funds for advanced academic programs, improved technology and specialized teachers and librarians, according to a report from the Measure LC Oversight Committee to the governing board during a June 3 meeting. Committee chair Katherine Markgraf presented the accountability report for the 2024-25 year, which ends June 30.
