The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is a global public health organization dedicated to enhancing the health and living conditions of individuals across the Americas. It operates within the United Nations framework, acting as the Regional Office for the Americas under the World Health Organization and serving as the health body for the Inter-American System. In Latin America, it is referred to as OPS or OPAS, which stands for Organización Panamericana de la Salud in Spanish and Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde in Portuguese.

Washington, D.C., March 4, 2025 (PAHO) – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is working on a project with nine countries of the Americas on an initiative to strengthen actions against obesity in the region, which has the highest prevalence of overweight and obesity in the world. In the Americas, 67.5% of adults and 37.6% of children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 are overweight or obese, increasing the risk of noncommunicable diseases and highlighting the urgency of immediate action.

The workshop provided 106 health workers with essential resources, updated tools, and a comprehensive understanding of the current challenges that are impacting efforts to achieve broader vaccine coverage across the island.
