Park Labrea News & Beverly Press
Constructed in 1946, Park Labrea was celebrated as the largest apartment complex west of the Mississippi River. This development led to the rapid growth of a new neighborhood in the city center. Residents of Park Labrea started sharing a newsletter throughout the community, which eventually evolved into the "Parklabrea News." By 1948, experienced journalist Joseph Duplain took charge and transformed it into a full-fledged newspaper. In the mid-1950s, editor Nan Dayhoff took over, leading the publication for two decades with a schedule of bi-monthly releases. In the 1970s, the paper was acquired by seasoned TV news personality Charles “Chuck” Riley. Finally, in 1990, it was sold to the current owners, Michael and Karen Villalpando, who officially began their stewardship on January 1.
