Lapel man dies in two-vehicle crash southeast of Fortville

FORTVILLE — A Lapel man lost his life Monday morning in a crash involving two vehicles. Officers with Hancock County Sheriff’s Department were called to the intersection of County Road 50 West and State Road 234 around 10:47 a.m. for a crash involving a dump truck and a van. Deputies arriving on the scene southeast of Fortville called for Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team to respond.

During our 50-plus years of marriage, Susie and I have traveled much of this country and Canada enjoying a wide variety of activities. At last count, we had visited 36 states and three Canadian provinces to fill our time together. Twenty years ago, I could drive 18 hours to cover many miles to reach our destination. PENDLETON — The interurban railroad once offered transportation services throughout the state, with a line passing through downtown Pendleton. It operated locally from 1899 and ceased local service in 1941, when, according to the historic marker on the east side of Pendleton Avenue north of State Street, “automobiles doomed” it. “On Saturday, January 18, 1941, the line through Pendleton ceased operation forever,” the marker reads.
