Perspective Magazine
At Perspective, we are committed to the values of liberal democracy, environmental sustainability, and social equality. We identify as “militant centrists,” providing a counterbalance to the extreme polarization evident in public discourse and mainstream media today. The issues facing our world have evolved beyond traditional political divides. It's no longer sufficient to simply view matters from a Left or Right perspective; we need independent thought that is willing to question prevailing narratives and embrace diverse viewpoints from all areas of the political landscape. Each of us has a role to play in fostering respectful debates and discussions that encourage unity and compromise, rather than resorting to cancel culture. This is why we engage our readers through monthly surveys, giving them a platform to voice their opinions. With 10 reader surveys, regular columns, insightful interviews, and cultural pieces covering films, music, art, and lifestyle, Perspective has quickly become the UK’s fastest-growing new current affairs publication.

Mrs David earned herself literary respectability not because she wrote about cooking, but in spite of her choice of subject matter.

Your book Ultra-Processed People was voted The Times Science Book of the Year – why did it grab the public’s imagination? People feel gaslit by their food and by the companies that make it. The book ties up the loose threads around nutrition. Science stories interest in two ways: they either completely turn your idea of the universe and yourself on its head, or they confirm everything you’ve always believed. This is the second. You’re an infection diseases specialist at UCLH.

I brew my morning coffee and sit down with a tattered blue notebook. The binding is broken, resewn and taped, the yellowed pages stuffed with loose sheets and newspaper clippings. On the cover, Recipe Index is inscribed in gold, and inside the marbled endpapers: Walker’s Private Recipe Book No 3. A handy book for the housewife. 1940. Here lies treasure.
