    Stacking wins. That’s what the Pipestone Area Schools’ baseball team did on Thursday and Friday last week with a single-game 9-4 conquest over Jackson on the road — followed by a doubleheader sweep of Blue Earth Area Friday at A’s City Field. The Arrows won Game One, 13-1, and followed that with an 18-2 victory in Game Two. Every team player contributed, and Barrett Berkenpas recorded his first career varsity hit as one of the many offensive highlights. PAS improved to 6-7 overall.

    JACKSON — The Pipestone Area Schools’ softball team was given a difficult assignment last Thursday in Big South Conference action. The Arrows squared off with Class AA ninth-ranked Jackson County Central, who’s only losses this season are to 2024 state tournament representative and AA No. 2 Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial and St. James Area. “We definitely competed with them,” PAS head coach Robert Petersen noted.

    Staci’s Bar and Grill won grand champion and best presentation in the 2025 Pipestone County Burger Battle with its burger called the “Dubliner.” It included a one-third pound burger with grilled corned beef, melted Swiss cheese, “pot of gold” sauce and coleslaw. The Hatfield Roadhouse won first place in the taste category with its burger called the “Prime Dip Burger.” It included a one-third pound patty, thinly sliced prime rib and Swiss cheese with au jus on the side.

    The Pipestone Area Schools’ track and field teams served as host of the 49th Annual Bob Nangle Arrow Relays on Tuesday, April 29. The Arrow girls earned 43 points for seventh place overall, and the boys were ninth in their gender accumulating 25.5 points. Aurora Winsel dazzled in the sprints for PAS, going gold in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.92, and she also picked up a pair of silver finishes in the 100 (12.89) and 200 (26.48).

    Presentation heard on communication boardRyann Beukema, an early childhood special education teacher at Pipestone Area Schools (PAS), presented information to the school board during the public forum portion of its April 28 meeting about a proposed donation from a local parent group to the school of a communication board that would help students with nonverbal autism, such as her son Emmet, communicate with staff on the playground.
