Two Pipestone Area Schools’ junior golfers received all-Big South Conference honors based on their performances from regular-season meets this season. Vivian Brockberg and Matt DeBates were so honored. “Vivian getting all-conference was great to see,” PAS girls coach Grant Everson said. “It was a goal she had coming into this year because of how close she was last year. Hopefully, that will give her more confidence.”PAS boys coach Craig Boeddeker was equally pleased with DeBates.

Cold, harsh winds raged at more than 30 mph last Friday in southwest Minnesota. In the end, Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian handled the conditions better than Pipestone Area Schools in a 22-9 victory at A’s/City Field. Such substandard weather continued early into the new week, bringing about more canceled games for both schools. The Flying Dutchmen (12-5) were scheduled to play Dawson-Boyd and the Arrows (8-11) had Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on the docket, but rain Monday shelved them both.

BROOKLYN CENTER — The Minnesota State High School League on Wednesday released pairings for upcoming section tournaments. In Section 3AA South, the Pipestone Area Schools (8-11) was seeded fifth and will travel to Windom for a first-round game, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Island Park. Interestingly enough, PAS defeated No. 4 Windom twice during the regular season with Weston Reinhard winning both games — but, the decision was made to send the Arrows on the road.

She sprinted to glory. That’s what Pipestone Area Schools’ Aurora Winsel accomplished last Saturday during the Big South Conference small schools track and field meet at Paulsen Athletic Complex. Winsel claimed gold in the 100-meter dash as well as the 200 dash and the open 400. She clocked in with a time of 12.91 in the 100, 25.82 in the 200 and 1:01.24 (400). “Aurora is simply a lot stronger compared to her prior years,” PAS head coach Mark Moeller said.
