WHEATLAND — “There is a cat feeding problem in Wheatland,” Chief of Police Doug Willadsen said. “Up until the new ordinance, these animals were not impounded. We don’t want our officers getting bitten or scratched,” he added. Although, in the past, officers rounding up stray animals — specifically feral cats — have been injured in the process which leads to the necessity of rabies shots and/or other medical attention.

WHEATLAND — Some members of the Platte County Republican Party recently expressed dissatisfaction or suspicion regarding the use of ballot machines for election polls. With scandal and media frenzy surrounding the last Presidential election results, voters are concerned that electronic counting methods could be suspect, or even tampered with. Jerry Cundall, chairman of the Platte County Republican Party brought the group’s concerns before the commissioners.

WHEATLAND - There’s nothing quite like a tooth-and-nail, hard-fought game when the home team comes out victorious. Playing to a full crowd, the Bulldogs hosted the Buffalo Bison to what turned out to be quite possibly the game of the year. In a rare turn of events, freshman Tate Nichols was on the free-throw line before the clock even started, due to a technical foul on the Buffalo bench. Nichols was good for one of the two shots, creating the first one-point lead of the game.

Emergency funds needed

WHEATLAND — An emergency meeting was called by the Wheatland Town Council to address the ever-worsening status of the Black Mountain water tower. The week that Platte County experienced critically low temperatures increased the stress on the tower, resulting in damages to the exterior; specifically, large chunks of ice pulled an access ladder off where it lay suspended in ice. Leaking water on other areas of the tower resulted in thick shafts and overflows of ice.

DOUGLAS - The Lady Bulldogs traveled to conference rival territory to take on the Douglas Bearcats in hoops action Friday night. The Bearcats are currently ranked #1 in the state with an undefeated record. From the outset, the Bearcats applied pressure, couldn’t miss a three-pointer, and the Lady ‘Dawgs had a tough time maintaining possession of the ball. With a lid on the Wheatland basket, the Bearcats took a quick ten-point lead.
