Indie director Douglas Burke was proud of his feature Surfer: Teen Confronts Fear and worked hard to get it into the traveling theater circuit. Burke resisted putting his movie on digital or disc formats, insisting Surfer was made to be experienced on the big screen. Unfortunately, he picked early 2020 to start its theatrical distribution. Cinemas started closing down shortly after the opening of Surfer, creating a setback that has taken Burke years to overcome.

Shuten Order, due out this fall, looks to be one of the wildest games publisher Spike Chunsoft has been involved with (and they’ve put out some wiiiiild games). It looks on the surface to be a visual novel or JRPG, but it’s also a detective mystery, a stealth action horror game and even a dating sim. And what it ends up being depends on how you play. The backstory of Shuten Order is that in the future, a religious cult emerges who calls itself the game’s title.

Later this summer, Netflix will exclusively present The Summer Hikaru Died,  a new anime series based on the best-selling horror manga of the same name by Mokumokuren. But before then, you can catch a few sneak peeks of the series…if you can make it to Anime Expo. CyberAgent, Inc. and CygamesPictures, whoa are producing the series, will offer a preview of the first episode July 4 during a special panel at Anime Expo.
