A packed coliseum cheered on riders in Western performance horse’s four-event challenge: The World’s Greatest Horseman. From a pool of 80 rider in the prelims, 15 made it to the finals held on March 1, 2025, at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas. At the conclusion of this monumental event, Erin Taormino was crowned champion — the first woman in history to win the World’s Greatest Horseman title.

The red roan stallion Roanmeo is a familiar face in the finals at major National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) events. And, in Fort Worth, Texas, he earned the biggest win of his career in the Tres Osos Cow Horse Derby at the NRCHA Celebration of Champions. With EquiStat Elite $3 Million Rider Justin Wright aboard, the stallion marked a winning composite of 664 (220.5 herd/218.5 rein/225 cow) in the event that concluded Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Will Rogers Memorial Center.

It’s always fun to get a turn in the winner’s circle, but being there on a horse you bred and raised is even more special. Both Chad Bushaw and Kristen Galyean got to savor that experience after tying to win The Ike 4-Year-Old Non-Pro with composite scores of 436, collecting $7,888 each. Bushaw and Bitterest drew up last in both the first and second go, meaning Bushaw didn’t get his pick of the cows either day.

As Rieta Dufurrena rode Im Hott Blooded into the show pen for The Ike Derby and Classic 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro finals, she was still reeling a bit from their first go. There, she and the mare cut two cows and ended up holding one of them for 50 seconds, one of the longest times she’s ever had to hold one. The pair won the go-round with a 222, then copy and pasted their run — minus the tough cow — to mark another 222 and win the 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro Championship. “She was just consistent in both runs.
