    The Statfold Barn Railway has announced that they have made the switch to diesel power due to fire risk. The railway runs through both farmland and countryside and to keep the crops safe, the decision has been to switch to diesel and battery power until further notice. This weekend, Saturday services will be in the hands of the battery electric locomotive, and on Sunday, Plymouth diesel, Tiny, will be hauling trains.

    The Stanier Mogul Fund has sent over a small update on the work going on behind the scenes whilst the Severn Valley Railway has been blocked at Mor Brook. The last few months have been spent completing the usual winter maintenance and replacing the hopper-type ashpan with a rake out type. The fund says that the hopper one was problematic due to warping, which was caused by excess heat from the hot ash and this caused it to jam.

    Alstom has announced that the new Thomas the Tank Engine documentary, An Unlikely Fandom, will have its UK premiere at The Greatest Gathering. The documentary explores the influence of the children’s television programme, whilst delving into its origins. Brannon Carty, director of the documentary, will be flying in from the USA to take part in a Q&A following the screening on the 2nd August. One of the large paint booths at the site will be transformed into a 250-seat auditorium for the event.

    The Severn Valley Railway has said that its seats for travelling behind Flying Scotsman next month were fully sold out within three minutes. 60103 Flying Scotsman will haul the first service back to Bridgnorth on the 25th July. The line has been closed between Hampton Loade and Bridgnorth due to a landslip at Mor Brook. Work is now underway to repair the damage and get the line fully open once again.

    A milestone in the construction of East West Rail was met yesterday when the first commercial freight train travelled along the line as part of its journey. The train was operated by DB Cargo UK on behalf of Maritime Transport and departed Didcot before coming onto the new line at Oxford. The train then travelled the 35 miles to Milton Keynes before heading to the new rail freight interchange at Northampton Gateway.
