Lynton and Barnstaple Railway's extension plans have been rejected

The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway has announced that its proposals for an extension have been rejected. The extension would have taken the railway from Killington Lane to Cricket Field Lane but the plans have been rejected by the Exmoor National Park Authority. The trust is looking for views from its members to determine its next steps regarding the proposal, as well as other areas of development for the railway.
Update on steam locomotive 34028 Eddystone as mainline return edges closer

Southern Locomotives Ltd has released an update on the work taking place to prepare 34028 Eddystone for mainline running. A number of tasks have now been completed, including overhauling the injectors, clack and safety valves. Airbrake equipment has now been installed, and pipework has been completed. Gauges have been calibrated, brake rigging overhauled, lubricators checked, and the pistons and valves have been examined.
Steam locomotive 7029 Clun Castle to visit North Wales this Saturday

7029 Clun Castle is to visit Llandudno this Saturday (3rd May 2025) as it hauls The North Wales Coast Express. Departing Birmingham New Street at 08:41, the train will pass through Coleshill Parkway (08:58), Nuneaton (09:21), Tamworth (09:46), Lichfield Trent Valley (09:54), Stafford (10:18), Crewe (10:49) and Chester at 11:24.
Steam locomotive 71000 Duke of Gloucester set to move to the Severn Valley Railway

The BR Class 8 Steam Locomotive Trust and Locomotive Services Group have announced that 71000 Duke of Gloucester is set to move to the Severn Valley Railway. The movement will take place via road transport on the 1st May 2025. On arrival at the Severn Valley Railway, 71000 will continue to receive commissioning work before static and dynamic testing. A careful evaluation of the locomotive will take place during testing to make sure the locomotive is ready for its return to the mainline.
Bala Lake Railway Trust launches £300,000 appeal

The Bala Lake Railway Trust has launched a new £300,000 track appeal, aimed at getting the line into Bala Town itself. The railway currently runs from Llanuwchllyn to Pen-y-Bont station, but now has permission and a track bed to run to Bala Town. This next stage of the project will see physical progress on the ground. £15 will buy clips and screws, £50 will buy a sleeper and fixings and £2000 will sponsor a complete track panel.
New £32m Greater Manchester railway station given green light

Wigan Council has given the green light for a new £32m railway station in Golborne to be built. With planning permission granted, Murphy, a local company, has been given the task to design it. The new station will reconnect Golborne to the railway network for the first time in 60 years. Transport for Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Wigan Council can now develop a full business case.
Blocked train sanders found as RAIB release interim report into fatal Mid-Wales train crash

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has released an interim report into the crash between two Transport for Wales Class 158 trains in Mid-Wales. The accident happened on the 21st October 2024 at Talerddig loop in Powys. 1J25, the 1831 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth Transport for Wales service, collided with 1S71, the 19:09 Machynlleth to Shrewsbury TfW service. One passenger sadly died, and four others were seriously injured in the accident.
Yorkshire railway purchases steam locomotive

Hunslet 0-4-0T No. 1684 has been purchased by the Middleton Railway in Leeds. 1684 was built in 1931 and was previously owned by the GWR 1338 Locomotive Trust. A lot of work is needed for the locomotive to be brought back to working order, something which couldnt be donw whilst owned by another organisation.
