The Renton Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of Axel Chirinos Banegas. The Special and Directed Enforcement Teams arrested a 56-year-old man on investigation of murder in connection with the homicide of 23-year-old Banegas, who was found in his apartment by a family member in the 1100 block of Edmonds Avenue NE on March 5, 2025. The man was arrested in Renton on June 3, and was taken into custody without incident.

The city of Renton held a Pride flag-raising event to celebrate the start of Pride Month. At the flag raising on June 2, Mayor Armondo Pavone said this was the sixth year of raising the Pride flag and was the first time they have raised the flag accompanied by a proclamation at the Renton City Council meeting. Pavone said the LGBTQ community has made substantial progress and achievements in Renton and throughout the United States in recent years.

A plane crashed into the water at Renton Municipal Airport on Sunday with no injuries. At around 2:30 p.m. June 1, a single-engine, privately owned aircraft reported mechanical issues during takeoff and made an emergency landing in the water at the north end of the airport. The Mercer Island Police Department Marine Patrol Unit responded to the reported crash and secured the area. MIPD reported the pilot and passenger of the airplane were both uninjured and out of the plane when they arrived.
