I feel as if Tamagotchi's have been making a real come back in the West recently. Their marketing team at Bandai Namco are doing a darn good job at creating new campaigns that generate interest, alongside constant awareness at game shows, especially here in the UK. My recent visit to Japan also shined a light on this adorable, and highly collectible brand, forcing me to snag an original from 1997 that I found in "Tokyo's smallest retro games shop".

This is a news post that I didn't think I'd be writing this week, only because retro emulation is a grey area, seeing as it incentivises the use and downloading of game files that many do not own. That said, we are all for handheld emulators, they're incredible gaming devices that allow us to take retro games with us wherever we please in comfortable form factors and hardware that pushes even PS2 Emulation to silky smooth frame rates.

After coming back from our trip to the Netherlands to film an episode of The Retroad Show with one of Europe’s biggest Nintendo collectors, it was clear to me that there are some lunatics in this world that are obsessed with rare Game Boy Advance handhelds. I too am one of them, owning a Pokemon Center Charizard GBA SP, but there are many collectors who are wanting far rarer devices and are willing to pay the price for it.

There's one place on earth that most retro gamers and trading card collectors have at the top of their bucket list, and that's Tokyo. It's a city renowned for its video game history and the birth of one of the biggest media franchises in the world - Pokémon. Pokémon for the Game Boy Color ignited my love for gaming as a child. I still play and collect the cards to this day, so having the opportunity to visit Japan is something I will be forever grateful for.
