To cite sources on JUST how good some of those instrumentals are, you don’t have to look far. Opener “TWICE REMOVED” sets up several motifs for the record, including the hard-hitting digital sonic chaos erupting at a dizzying pace and the near-constant references to and samples of Jane’s own work.

Classic wizard sleaze. Catherine also has her own thoughts about what does and doesn't count as wizard sleaze. Oklou? “Wizard sleaze as FUCK.” 10,000 gecs? “Peak wizard sleaze.” Like most subcultures, there’s also a distinct regionality to the aesthetic. “Wizard sleaze is West Coast. The biggest problem with SOPHIE does not exist at the album's core. In fact, the ideas and ambition contained at the record's outset are strong. Take "The Dome's Protection," a sprawling 7-minute spoken word epic with a masterfully captivating vocal performance courtesy of Nina Kraviz. And "Do You Wanna Be Alive" captures, for lack of a better word, a cuntiness that SOPHIE always seemed artistically enamored with.
