Riverton’s New City Manager Excited about the Future

Craig Giles has been sworn in as the new city manager for Riverton. He left his position as city manager for Smithfield to take the post. His first day on the job was Sept. 25, 2023. “It just seemed like a really good time in my life to make a career change,” he said. “I loved Smithfield, but I’ve always wanted to be back along the Wasatch Front.

Vital suicide prevention training saves lives

In a society where mental health challenges seem to be increasing, suicide prevention training is a call to action. Its mission is to create a safety net for those struggling with despair, depression and feelings of hopelessness, and it’s driven by the belief that every life is meaningful. Riverton resident Lisa Carter runs the QPR Suicide Prevention training group for Riverton City which meets the third Thursday of each month, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Riverton City Hall (12830 S. Redwood Road).

It wasn’t expected to be a traditional cap and gown graduation, but one to celebrate 11 high school seniors at South Valley Chamber’s Women in Business meeting. Miss America 1985 Sharlene Wells Hawkes and two students were slated to speak. These female students—one from each Canyons School District high school and Canyons Technical Education Center, four from Jordan School District and one from Juan Diego Catholic High School—have been part of the Junior Women in Business program this school year.
