The Broken Bow American Legion Seniors baseball team competed at the Plattsmouth Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend. The Bow seniors dropped their opening game on Friday to Concordia Omaha Legacy Design Strategies 13-4. Legacy jumped out to a 9-0 lead through the first 2 1/2 innings. Bow tried to battle back with 2 runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fifth but Legacy sealed the win with four runs in the sixth. Seven different players collected a hit for Bow.

The Bow Spirit 18U softball team was busy over the weekend. The Spirit faced Central Select-Heat Blue 18U on Friday. Central collected a 9-0 win. The Spirit was held to just three hits in the game. Ida Bumgarner was 2 for 2 and Caeden Arnold finished 1 for 2. The Spirit played two games on Saturday. The day began by falling to WNS Wildfire 18U 8-2. The Wildfire jumped out quickly with a six run first inning. The Spirit scored a run in he fourth and a run in the fifth inning.

Another sign of spring and summer fun is here, as the Broken Bow Market on the Square events get their start on Thursday. Organized by the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, Thursdays from now until early fall will hold a wide variety of shopping and activities for attendees. Usually started in mid-May each year, this year’s market is getting a May 29 start due in part to the construction on the stretch of Highway 2 through Broken Bow.

Golfers from across the state have completed 18 of 36 holes at the 2025 NSAA Boys State Golf Tournament. Opening round action took place in Kearney, Gering, Grand Island, and Columbus for classes A, B, C, and D respectively. Jack White of Broken Bow was among those competing in Grand Island in the class C tournament turning in a first round score of 81 (9 over par), good enough to be a part of a seven way tie for 43rd.

Mid-Plains Community College has announced their spring Dean’s and President’s Lists. A total of 148 students qualified for the Dean’s List, while 110 qualified for the President’s List. Students on the Dean’s List must have completed 12 or more applicable credit hours of college-level courses and maintain and overall GPA of 3.5-3.89 on a 4.0 scale. President’s List students needed to maintain a GPA of 3.9 or greater.
