    The Broken Bow American Legion Seniors baseball team competed at the Plattsmouth Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend. The Bow seniors dropped their opening game on Friday to Concordia Omaha Legacy Design Strategies 13-4. Legacy jumped out to a 9-0 lead through the first 2 1/2 innings. Bow tried to battle back with 2 runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fifth but Legacy sealed the win with four runs in the sixth. Seven different players collected a hit for Bow.

    The Bow Spirit 18U softball team was busy over the weekend. The Spirit faced Central Select-Heat Blue 18U on Friday. Central collected a 9-0 win. The Spirit was held to just three hits in the game. Ida Bumgarner was 2 for 2 and Caeden Arnold finished 1 for 2. The Spirit played two games on Saturday. The day began by falling to WNS Wildfire 18U 8-2. The Wildfire jumped out quickly with a six run first inning. The Spirit scored a run in he fourth and a run in the fifth inning.

    The Nebraska high school sports season comes to its end this week with the playing of the NSAA boys state golf championships. The event is a 36 hole tournament with the opening round on Wednesday and the final round on Thursday. Jack White of Broken Bow will be making his second straight state golf appearance. White qualified for state as an individual by placing in the top ten of the C5 district.

    The 2025 NSAA state track and field championships came to its conclusion on Saturday with the final day of competition in classes C and D. Among the area highlights, Ethan Furne of South Loup was the state runner up in the Class C boys long jump. Furne jumped a personal best and set a new school record with an effort of 22′ 6″ to finish second. The event was won by Zavier Mitchell of Alma who went 22′ 6.5″ on his final attempt of the tournament.

    The 2025 NSAA state track and field championships continued Friday with the opening day of competition for classes C and D. Among the area highlights, Trevor Duryea of Anselmo-Merna was the silver medalist in the Class D boys triple jump. The AM freshman went 43′ 5.5″ to finish second at the state meet. The champion was Brodey Spurling of High Plains Community with a winning jump of 44′ 6.5″. Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna and Justin Folkers of Twin Loup each medaled in the Class D boys high jump.
