SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central wrapped up a weekend softball trip in Sioux Falls with a pair of setbacks on Saturday. The Golden Eagles fell to Sioux Falls Washington 17-0 and lost to Sioux Falls Roosevelt 11-0. Despite managing just two hits total in the sweep, Central coach Cassidy Neer said the Golden Eagles had positive things to take away from the setbacks. “We had a very high energy with nothing but great take aways,” Neer said. “We had outstanding defense and aggressive baserunning.

BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Central, playing without its top two players, split a pair of Eastern South Dakota Conference tennis duals on Saturday. The Golden Eagles defeated Brookings 6-3 and dropped a 7-2 decision to Yankton. Central got a big win from Mika Dannen at flight six singles as he pulled off a tiebreaker victory against Brookings. Dannen trailed 8-9 before holding serve to force a tiebreaker that he dominated 7-1.

The Aberdeen Smittys had some chances at Fossum Field Saturday afternoon, but could not cash when it mattered most. The Smittys fell to O’Gorman 8-5 and 11-1 in high school baseball action. The hosts led in the opener and had late rallies fall short in both contests. Jaxon Ladner doubled and later stole home for Aberdeen’s first run and Grant Beyer had a sacrifice fly in the third inning for another run. However, O’Gorman erased that two-run deficit in the first game with a five-run fourth inning.

SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central had the unenviable task of dealing with a pair of Class AA state softball powers on Friday. The Golden Eagles fell to Sioux Falls Jefferson 12-2 and dropped an 11-1 decision to defending state champion Sioux Falls Lincoln. The two Sioux Falls foes have a combined record of 26-5 so far this season. Central scored first against Jefferson when Kylee Hoffman doubled to lead off the game, moved to third on Avery Bendewald’s single, and came in to score on an error.

MOBRIDGE – Sunshine Bible Academy won the boys’ team title, while Mobridge-Pollock captured the girls’ team crown during the Central South Dakota Conference track and field meet on Friday. There were five athletes who won multiple open events during the meet. Samara Clemente of Wolsey-Wessington won the high jump and triple jump, Dannika Kaup of Potter County won the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, and Wolsey-Wessington’s Kendal Uttecht won the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.
