SIOUX FALLS – Hamlin’s title defense ran into a 6-foot-10 roadblock. Sioux Falls Christian center Griffen Goodbary put together a dominant performance in the paint, finishing with 32 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots – all without committing a foul – to help fuel Christian’s 61-51 win over Hamlin in the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament championship game at the Sanford Premier Center Saturday night.

Third-seeded Rapid City Christian came away with a 76-53 victory over Clark-Willow Lake in the opening round of the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament Thursday night, though not for lack of a fight from the Cyclones. “They battled,” said Clark-Willow Lake coach Jerome Nesheim. “I’m proud of the way they battled.”Clark-Willow Lake put up a handful more shots than their counterparts and were a respectable 40 percent from the field.

SIOUX FALLS – Hamlin put its shooting prowess on display Thursday evening, making buckets at a 70 percent clip through the first three quarters of play en route to an 82-43 win over Hill City in the opening round of the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament. Hamlin, the defending Class A champion, was 27-for-38 to begin the game, including a 6-for-14 (43 percent) effort from long range. The result was a quick and continually expanding lead over the Rangers, Hamlin in complete control.

SIOUX FALLS – Looking to make a splash in the opening round of the State A boys’ basketball tournament, Groton instead found the going murky against top-seeded Sioux Falls Christian Thursday afternoon. The high-powered Chargers were able to throttle down the Tigers en route to a 66-41 victory in the opening contest of the tournament. Christian got out to a big early lead, opening the game with a 7-0 run and increasing that advantage quickly to double digits.

CLARK – No one told the Clark-Willow Lake boys’ basketball team it was young. The Cyclones, with a roster full of freshmen and sophomores and just a pair of seniors, have stormed their way into this weekend’s State A tournament, a place few expected them to be. “I don’t think anyone’s told them they were super young yet and that they weren’t supposed to play as well as they do being as young as they are,” said Cyclone head coach Jerome Nesheim.
