The Seattle Seahawks have made themselves very interesting. Oops. The NFL has changed its rules for which teams will be eligible for Hard Knocks, HBO’s training camp reality series, but with or without new criteria, the Seahawks would have been eligible. And for the first time in a long time, Seattle is eligible at a time when they might also be more appealing as a subject than any of the other eligible teams. The Seahawks have never been on Hard Knocks.

If there is one name that could be called out as the 18th pick in the draft and headed to the Seattle Seahawks that would bewilder Twitter the most, itās Donovan Ezeiruaku. Often projected as a late first round or day two pick, and thatās only after a rapid rise in the past three months, Ezeiruakuās name is not likely the one youāve heard the most or all that often in a stacked edge rusher class. Thatās if you even want the Seahawks to draft an edge rusher first, which many fans donāt.

The Seattle Seahawks are signing veteran receiver Cooper Kupp to a 3-year, $45 million contract. Schefter was first to mention Kupp as a Seahawks target and I posted some pros and cons to the addition that you can read here. My estimate was a 3-year, $39 million deal, so this goes slightly above that.

The Seattle Seahawks are trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second round pick, as well as a late day three pick swa. The Steelers are paying Metcalf a five-year, $150 million contract. The Steelers pick is 52nd overall.

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed Jarran Reed to a three-year, $25 million contract on Sunday, according to Adam Schefter. The deal keeps Reed from negotiating with other teams on Monday when the free agency tampering period opens, and keeps the defensive line together for another season at a price tag of $8.3 million per season. Compared to similar DT contracts, Reed’s first year cap hit could come in around $8-$10 million.

The Seahawks released Tyler Lockett on Wednesday, ending a career in Seattle that ranks second all-time in every major receiving category behind only Steve Largent. The move saves $17 million in cash and cap. In 10 seasons, Lockett totaled 661 catches, 8,594 yards, 61 touchdowns (all second in franchise history) and he is also one of the best returners that the Seahawks have ever had. The Seahawks are “allowing” Rayshawn Jenkins to seek a trade partner, according to Jordan Schultz, the NFL insider who bought all of his sources through his dad Howard, the Starbucks owner who moved the Sonics to Oklahoma. On Wednesday, the Rams “gave permission” to Jonah Jackson to seek a trade and Seaside Joe thought, “Hmmm, this is so funny to me that these teams are pretending like anyone wants their bad investments,” but it wasn’t enough to warrant its own newsletter on this site.

The NFL is waiting for the Matthew Stafford domino to fall before anything else can happen, which even without being directly involved should have a significant impact on the Seattle Seahawks and their negotiations/non-negotiations/trade talks/cap casualty decision with Geno Smith. Even if you believe the Seahawks should and will keep Geno, how his market evolves in the next few weeks will determine his price and whether or not Seattle gives him any guarantees beyond next season.
