I dislike writing these articles, but here we are. According to HardwareLuxx, Synology is on a rough course with generations-old sub-par NAS hardware and now appears to be locking its NAS units to its own branded hard drives in its upcoming 2025 Plus models. This is a shame since a few years ago, Synology had neat hardware. At NVIDIA GTC 2025, we saw a number of cool systems at the Gigabyte booth. The two headliners were the GIGAPOD and the NVL72 rack. The GIGAPOD integrates NVIDIA HGX platforms into a rack with liquid cooling for pre-configured dense racks. The NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 is, of course, the next-generation high-end rack. First, is the easy one, it is now called the NVIDIA HGX B300 NVL16 as NVIDIA is noting the number of compute dies it has connected via NVLink instead of the number of GPU packages it has. Beyond that, it gets more exciting, and that has server manufacturers trying to figure out how to accommodate the new subsystem.

A few quarters ago we heard that Intel was looking to raise cash by selling a stake in Altera, and also looking towards Altera’s eventual IPO. Now, the company has sold a 51% stake in Altera valued at $8.75B to Silver Lake. That is about half the valuation that Intel purchased Altera for in 2015. Silver Lake Buys Majority Stake in Altera from IntelIn today’s announcement, Intel said that Silver Lake would own 51% of the company. Intel will still own the 49% minority stake.
