FASS NewsOnce a week, Celina Baskett drives out to the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre (SPSC) to teach art to small groups of male inmates. From drawing lines and shapes to understanding light and shade, every lesson is tailored to the learning appetite of the students of the day. Baskett, a criminology graduate and emerging artist, is no stranger to using art as a way of conveying her own perspective, a self-discovery tool that can transport her mind to a place of infinite possibilities.

AwardsSimon Fraser University’s School of Criminology is proud to announce that assistant professor Rylan Simpson has been honoured with the 2024 SFU Excellence in Teaching Award in the Early Career category. The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development announced funding to establish the National Invention to Innovation (i2I) Network, expanding the award-winning Invention to Innovation program founded at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in 2015. The groundbreaking program provides innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship training for students, researchers and highly qualified personnel in STEM and healthcare fields. Based on decades of research in science-based entrepreneurship by leading academics and practitioners, i2I addresses the major challenge of bridging the gap between Canadian invention and innovation.
