As many of you know I recently had a very frightening dance with death and spent three weeks in critical care at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. You may have noticed my absence from these pages. There were several people who stepped up to fill the space and to provide coverage of our Tigers while I was gone. They are my heroes. From being frighteningly close to death on March 31 when I went into hospital until now, it’s been a struggle and still has big challenges.

Tiger Baseball honored their seniors at the end of their final home game, facing off against Tularosa on Saturday, May 3. Though the team had to wear a loss against the statewide number six ranked Wildcats, it wasn’t without a hard-fought effort nor did it detract from the bidding of farewell to the three seniors on the team. All three of the departing seniors on the team are multi-sport athletes. Honored by the team were Brande Baca, Ashton Garcia and Hunter Montoya.

Tiger Softball paid a unique honor to their three departing seniors at the conclusion of their final home game, a contest against Tularosa on Tuesday, March 29. The three seniors rounded the bases of the Diamond at Tiger Fields for the last time in an emotion-laden ceremony. They were presented with baskets filled with gifts and treats of all sorts, as well as game softballs inscribed with their names.

Congress established the visa program in 1952 to temporarily allow foreign farmworkers to work in the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, of hired farmworkers had no authorization to work in the country from 2020 to 2022, down from 55% from 1999 to 2001.
