As some of our readers already know, last week’s issue marked my final publication as a reporter with the Sierra County Sentinel. I began working with the Sentinel in 2000, and in many ways it still seems like only yesterday. In looking back at the near quarter century I have been reporting about the local municipalities and area activities, I must say that I am truly appreciative for the opportunity to have served the residents and visitors of this most special community.

Layton, Utah based disc golf professional Levi Hancock finished an impressive 37 under par and took home top honors in the third annual Turtleback Classic Disc Golf Tournament Sunday, February 18. The two-day event began early Saturday morning with 113 professional and amateur disc golfers joining to compete for top honors and cash prizes.

Continuing a detailed review and update of the municipality’s zoning code and subdivision regulations Thursday, February 15, the Village of Williamsburg’s Board of Trustees convened a second public workshop to discuss board and citizens concerns prior to the afternoon’s regular meeting. At the workshop’s conclusion, trustees agreed that a number of new definitions and other minor revisions would be necessary before they would be able to take action regarding the associated Ordinance No. 134.

Dozens of professional players vying for top honors in the Third Annual Turtleback Classic Disc Golf Tournament began two days of competition at the Truth or Consequences Municipal Golf Course Saturday morning, February 17. Play will continue Saturday through 4:30 pm and afterward, everyone is invited to the Pelican Spa Courtyard, 306 South Pershing Avenue for a player party. Sunday, final round competition will tee off at 10 am, with play anticipated to be completed by 1 pm.

Members of Sierra Vista Hospital’s Governing Board gathered for a special meeting Wednesday, February 7. After the session was convened, the board moved into a closed door executive session to address pending personnel matters. Upon completing discussion, the governing board reconvened the afternoon’s public meeting and voted to approve provider contracts with surgeon Dr. Frank Walker and the hospital’s new Nurse Practitioner, Nichelle Virgil.
