If you watch the SMU football team practice you might wonder why one of the quarterbacks is in a sweatshirt and hat instead of pads and a helmet. That's because it's quarterbacks coach D'Eriq King. King, who was recently named to the 247Sports 30under30 List, is already helping mold the next generation of college quarterback. He threw for just under 8,400 yards with 76 touchdowns to go with another 2,000-plus yards and another 32 scores rushing during his college career.

With 10 practices down and the calendar flipped to August the SMU football team is entering the second phase of fall camp this week. One thing has been clear, the Mustangs aren't afraid to get after it. "We've been really physical. It's been physical," SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee said following Saturday's scrimmage. "We've done a ton of team reps. (Saturday) was our first full day going a lot of just move the ball, live tackle football. I think we have a team that will be physical.

For the second season in a row, Isaiah Nwokobia has the honor of wearing the No. 23 jersey for the SMU football team. But it wasn't a foregone conclusion. After wearing 23 last year, to honor former Mustang great Jerry LeVias, Nwokobia was back in his No. 12 jersey during the spring and at the very beginning of fall camp. Normally, it wouldn't be until the end of fall camp that the jersey would be awarded. That's not the case anymore.

(SMU) – SMU quarterback Preston Stone and offensive lineman Justin Osborne have been named to the Pick Six Previews Preseason All-ACC Second Team, while offensive lineman Savion Byrd was tabbed to the Preseason ACC All-Transfer Team, the publication announced Wednesday. Pick Six Previews is an annual season preview publication launched in 2012 by Heisman Voter Brett Ciancia.
