Here’s a dirty little Democratic secret: Joe Biden never, really, believed that Kamala Harris could beat Donald Trump. It was one of the reasons he held on for so long — even after his disastrous debate performance — and, I think, one of the unspoken reasons why he ran for a second term at all. Biden made those facts clear — again — during a very shaky interview on “The View” Thursday. And, in the process, pushed Harris directly under the bus. It’s pretty brutal stuff.

Here’s my newest, hottest take: Thursday is the new Friday. As in, Thursday is now my favorite day of the week. Because the end of the week is coming. Things are starting to slow a bit. People are beginning to look to the weekend. But, it isn’t the weekend just yet! So, you aren’t wasting your weekend. Your weekend isn’t flying by. It’s not almost Monday. In short: Thursday is all expectation and no disappointment.
Why so many Democrats are asking the wrong question

On a daily basis, I read stuff from all over the Internet that ponders this basic question: Do Democrats needs a more liberal or a more conservative nominee to win the White House again in 2028? Democratic pollster thinks that is the wrong question to be asking. “I think it's that people want to see candidates that show that they're going to fight for them,” she told me in an interview Wednesday for my “Out of the Wilderness” Substack Live show.

It is beyond debate that President Donald Trump is in bad shape, politically speaking. His approval ratings has dropped into the low 40s. He‚Äôs lost ground with Hispanics, young voters and independents ‚ÄĒ three constituencies that were absolutely critical to his 2024 win. That reality often leads to a related conclusion: Democrats must be doing better! After all, in a binary political system, not liking ‚ÄúA‚ÄĚ should lead to ‚ÄúB‚ÄĚ being better liked. Right?
Is John Fetterman ok?

I am a fan of Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman. Not because I agree with his views but because he is a a refreshing voice — and look — in Washington. He strikes me as a rare authentic person in a profession that has become almost entirely performative and packaged. And, as someone who has dealt with anxiety issues my entire adult life, I admire Fetterman’s willingness to speak publicly about his struggles with depression. I am NOT a fan of Adam Jentleson.
