Society for American Baseball Research

The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) was founded in Cooperstown, New York. It was started by L. Robert Davids, who brought together 15 fellow baseball enthusiasts on August 10, 1971, at the National Baseball Hall of Fame to create the organization. Since that small gathering, SABR has seen significant growth in its membership. Within ten years, it grew to 1,500 members, and today it boasts over 6,000 members from around the globe. The SABR membership includes a variety of individuals, such as officials from major and minor league baseball, broadcasters, writers, and many former players. However, the majority of members are simply dedicated fans—anyone with an interest in baseball is welcome to join. While SABR was initially established to unite baseball historians, statisticians, and researchers, you do not need to conduct research to become a member.
