    Sterling’s first full-time dermatology clinic has opened and is accepting patients. U.S. Dermatology Partners, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, opened the Sterling location earlier in March. The clinic is the company’s Colorado location and the first in the state outside the Denver metropolitan area.

    UPDATE: Nebraska State Engineer Matthew Manning has responded to a query by the Journal-Advocate, stating he has no comment on Donald Ostrander’s letter (see below.) In an email received Wednesday morning, Manning said officials are negotiating in good faith, contrary to Ostrander’s accusation. “Nebraska is confident that it is proceeding with a viable project, in accordance with the law, under proper procedure, and consistent with permitting requirements,” Manning said.

    The road to a replacement for Sterling’s recreation center and Logan County’s Heritage Center is going to be a long one. Wade Gandee, director of parks and recreation for Sterling, told his Parks, Library and Recreation Board recently that it’s going to take more participation by stakeholders to even arrive at a design that’s acceptable to the public, and only then can they look at what it will cost.

    City officials hope a Nebraska consulting firm can devise a way to prevent flash-flooding at the intersection of Third Street and Chestnut during heavy thunderstorms. The block of Third between Chestnut and Poplar has flooded during heavy downpours for the past two summers causing traffic problems and some damage to buildings in that area. This despite extensive rebuilding of the city’s storm sewer system in the downtown area while the S-Curve was being built.

    Yesterday, I told myself, “Jennifer, you could feel better about your Methuselah age if you tried a little harder.” So, I made an appointment at Ulta, a beauty supply company. I told them I wanted someone to show me how to apply makeup. I intentionally put only lotion on my face, put my chin down and shoulders back, and walked into the glitz, glam, and mirrors. Did I mention everyone in the place was under twelve, beautiful, and eager? I wanted to leave.
