There are no alcoholic beverages sold at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley. That fact did not prevent Saturday afternoon from being Miller time. Ryder Miller's time that is. In the biggest game of his high school career, the junior second baseman went 4-for-4 with six runs batted in, leading Webster County to a 15-4 victory over Greater Beckley Christian in five innings.

No one would go as far to say that the weather forecasters do not like Greater Beckley Christian and Webster County baseball, but the elements have clearly not been their friend. Two games during the regular season and a make-up date were all rained out. So, it should come as no surprise that the first meeting of the regional championship series ultimately met the same fate. Continuous rain Tuesday washed out game one of the best-of-3 series, moving the contest to Wednesday in Beckley - hopefully.

The 2025 high school softball season is now down to four teams in each class. The final run to the championship starts Wednesday at Little Creek Park in South Charleston and continues through Saturday. The first two days will see the Class A and AA titles decided, while Class AAA and AAAA will play Friday and Saturday. Locally, Greenbrier West and Liberty have advanced to the final four in their respective classes and are two wins away from the first softball titles in school history.

New Richmond - The opening game between Wyoming East and James Monroe in the Class AA Region 3 championship series was projected to be a pitcher's duel. The hometown bats begged to differ. Combining for nine hits, including four doubles, the Warriors rolled past the Mavericks 12-1 in five innings Monday at the War Zone. Wyoming East now holds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series which shifts to Lindside Tuesday, weather permitting.

Friday night, Woodrow Wilson scored nine first-inning runs in a decisive win over Wyoming East. Monday night at Thomas F. Parham Field, the Flying Eagles once again exploded right out of the gates. Scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first, Woodrow Wilson soared past regional rival Oak Hill, 10-5. "They came in and took care of business," Flying Eagles head coach Alex Williams said. These boys are phenomenal hitters, top to bottom, and it shows.
