STRATFORD Town have announced a trio of new signings ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Bards have signed midfielders Charlie Williams and Charlie Dowd and striker Riley O’Sullivan on permanent deals. Williams returns to the Arden Garages Stadium having impressed on loan at the club from Burton Albion in the second half of last season.

STRATFORD-upon-Avon Athletic Club athletes Seb Hillard and Will Hovell represented Warwickshire at the English Schools (ESAA) Midlands Combined Events Championships. Hillard (under-17) and Hovell (under-15) headed to Moorways Stadium in Derby after earning their respective places on the county team. Every Stratford youngster from under-11 through to under-15 attempts all running, throwing and jumping events with combined events the backbone of the club’s junior training programme.

STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s masters squad came away with gold and silver medals at the British Rowing Masters Championships at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham. The British Rowing Masters Championships is the highlight of the the masters’ regatta season with the event held over two days. And this year’s Championships saw a record number of entries as more than 800 crews took to the water on the 1,000m multi-lane national course.

BARNEY Halliwell returned to the podium with a silver medal in the men’s sabre event at the British Fencing Open Championships in Sheffield. The Wellesbourne fencer claimed a first medal since returning from injury last month following knee surgery which has forced him out of action for the majority of the season. However, the 23-year-old, who fences for Shakespeare’s Swords Fencing Club in Stratford, insists this medal is just the beginning as he attempts to return to his best form.
