The Seal Beach Sun, originally called The Journal, has proudly served as the community's newspaper since April 1967. It was established by Grace Campbell and her partner Jules Schwartz, who released the first issue, volume 1, number 1, marking the beginning of this local publication.

    The Los Alamitos High softball team held off a late rally by Santa Margarita for a 7-6 win in the CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals on Saturday at Los Alamitos High. The win put the Griffins in the championship game against JSerra, at 7 p.m. on Friday at Deanna Manning Stadium, at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park, in Irvine. The Griffins led 7-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when the Eagles pushed across four runs, sparked by a lead-off home run.

    After making a run to the CIF-SS Division 1 baseball quarterfinals the Los Alamitos High Griffins saw their playoff run come to an end with a bloop single to right field that gave the Santa Margarita Eagles a walk-off 5-4 win to send the Eagles to the semifinals. Junior Warren Gravely chipped a ball over first base that landed just inside the foul line and pinch runner Aramis Perez came around from second base to score the winning run.

    Second in a series. The five-year fiscal forecast for Seal Beach projects a 3.3% growth in expenditures and 2.4% growth in revenue, according to a slide from recent budget workshops. However, a Seal Beach City Council member and the finance director reported financial improvement during a recent budget workshop. Finance Director Arenado gave the council a presentation on Seal Beach’s financial outlook during the May 8 council meeting.

    The Seal Beach council unanimously approved an amendment to the contract with the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center for wildlife services on Monday, May 12. This is the first amendment to the contract since Seal Beach began its own animal control program. The city will now pay the wildlife center $1,000 a month. Previously, the city paid $500 a month. This was a Consent Calendar item.
