    The 37th annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26. The event will be held on and around the Main Street area of Seal Beach. The Car Show is the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce’s signature event. The Chamber doesn’t charge admission. Chamber Treasurer Rob Jahncke is the chair of this year’s Car show. According to Jahncke, there will be 650 cars in this year’s show.

    On April 21, the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing for a permit to allow a dog grooming business on Main Street, according to a legal notice published in the April 10 Sun. The Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. The agenda is not available, so the exact time of the public hearing isn’t known. Applicants Haydee and Bon Leowardy are seeking a minor use permit to operate a 600-square foot dog grooming business, according to the legal notice.

    By Charles M. KellyThe Seal Beach City Council on Monday, April 14 unanimously approved staff request to purchase a Marine Safety vehicle. The cost: $51,829.29, according to the staff report. The council also approved a budget amendment for that amount. If this seems familiar, it should. The council approved the purchase of a replacement for Marine Safety unit #5140, as well as three police pursuit cars and a backhoe on March 24.

    The Eighth Annual Vans Jack’s Pro Competition was just held south of The Huntington Beach Pier. Local 15-year old surf legend Bailey Turner took third place in the Pro Woman’s Quarterfinal. She earned 2,440 points toward 2026 Challenger Series qualification and $2,200 prize money. She’ll compete again in August 2025 at the Virginia Beach Pro QS 2,000.     The council on Monday, April 14, approved an agreement between Seal Beach and Orange County to be part of the Alert OC notice system. Technically, the agreement was called a memorandum of understanding. According to staff, it won’t cost Seal Beach anything. The vote was unanimous. This was a Consent Calendar item. Consent items are voted on collectively, without discussion, unless a council member pulls one or more items for further discussion. Nothing was pulled from this week’s Consent Calendar.
