The Seal Beach Sun, originally called The Journal, has proudly served as the community's newspaper since April 1967. It was established by Grace Campbell and her partner Jules Schwartz, who released the first issue, volume 1, number 1, marking the beginning of this local publication.

    The Coastal Commission on June 12 approved the remodel of a Seal Beach home with an addition to the second story. The project was approved with certain conditions. The property is on  Crystal Cove Way. “The proposed project is for the construction of a 1,227 sq. ft. addition and a major remodel to an existing single-family residence. The proposal includes an interior remodel, a 917 sq. ft. addition to the second floor, and 188 sq. ft. addition to an existing 449 sq. ft.

    The Planning Commission on June 15 unanimously approved a permit for a covered roof access structure in Surfside. A letter to the Seal Beach Planning Commission dated June 5 from Surfside Colony, Ltd., said the colony’s Architectural Review Board reviewed the plans and issued conditional approval.

    I once had a hangman’s noose dropped around my head. Obviously, I’m against lynching. (It was annoying. I was 17 and trying to work up the nerve to ask out a pretty high school classmate named Joyland when I was interrupted by the noose.)There’s a t-shirt that calls for lynching of journalists. I’m not going to tell you where to buy that shirt. If you really want it, you’re perfectly capable of figuring that out on your own. No one can sue you if you print the shirt, wear the shirt, or sell the shirt.

    Peter Anninos, chair of the Seal Beach Cable Communications Foundation, recently gave the Sun a tour of SBTV3. Anninos said the majority of the equipment was 15 years old. He said the cameras were first generation when SBTV3 got them. He said they were now ancient history. “We’re generations behind,” Anninos said. He said the building in which the station is located (the Old City Hall Annex Building) is up to code. He described it as earthquake safe.

    Perhaps it’s been decades since such a long line of patrons waited in such long lines to enter the newly renovated Bay Theatre in Seal Beach for an evening performance. Yet, at one point, for almost as far as the eye could see along Main Street, students, parents, and members of an anxious community hurried to get inside, but not before walking the red carpet for a first-ever high school film festival.
